The Miller Family 2010 Holiday Letter

Holiday Letter 2010 - Our second annual Holiday blog.  Yeah!

Jack

Jack is thriving at school.  He is in Mountain Yard at Play Mountain Place.  He absolutely loved summer camp this year.  Ask him and he will tell you, "Tuesdays was field trips; Wednesdays was beach day; Thursdays was at school; and Fridays was park with a pool day!" He saw his first movie in a theater during summer camp.  He has also seen Star Wars which has sent him into a complete Star Wars Lego obsession (the only thing on his Christmas list).  This year he has also learned how to play "Crazy 8's" and "Kings in the Corners" card games which are now played nightly.  Another milestone: moved out of the bathtub into the shower.  Our boy is growing up.

Owen

Owen continues to be a "cuddler" in the early morning. He snuggles right up and melts in our laps saying, "Keep me warm." He has very strong opinions about things which he fights for (literally).  It must be a part of being the second boy.  He told us that his best friend Joel got bitten by a vampire, so he is a vampire now.  But he doesn't have his teeth yet.  He is taking up Jennifer's family legacy of reading before bed (I should probably say "looking" since he doesn't read yet.) And he has a Grampa Miller's passion for doing things around the house.  He has mowed the lawn, screwed and unscrew countless things, and can't wait to be a part of our plans to paint.

Our First Trip to Disneyland!
On Super Bowl sunday we headed off to Disneyland thinking that we would avoid the crowds.  WRONG!  It was quite crowded.  Jennifer had foot surgery a week before we went.  So we got a wheelchair which ended up getting us on rides without waiting in line!  Jack and Owen's favorite ride was Thunder Mountain.

Keith & Rusty McNeil

Jennifer's mom Rusty, with much love and support from her entire family and many friends, made her transition while holding her husband Keith's hand on December 15, 2010.  She lived a life filled with passion, love, and service.  The local paper printed a beautiful obiguary.  You can read it by CLICKING HERE.

This year our game nights turned into Settler of Catan nights.  Settlers is a great strategy board game.  Imagine the best of Monopoly mixed with the best of Risk, and you have Settler's.

The boys' passion for games has also been born.  They now stay up and watch us play Catan(between playing tag and Legos) .  We have also had a few Family Game Nights this year.  (picture right)

A Visit from Gramma & Grampa

We are so lucky to have three visits from Gramma & Grampa Miller.  In March, we feel in love with the Noah's Ark interactive exhibit at the Skirball Center.

Halloween 2010

We entered the fall with our annual trip to Mr. Bones Pumpkin Patch.  We were in communication with Nick over Facebook, the sculcuptre we met last year at the pumpkin patch.   Jack had a very complicated request for his pumpkin.  (Click on the picture to the right, a new webpage will open, then click on the orange play button and you can play a audio recording of his request.)

Here is the finaly request sent from the boys to Nick days before we went to the pumpkin patch: Jack, "If I can only have one thing carved in my pumpkin.... (long pause) I want a skeleton." Owen (winout hesitation), "I want a vampire carved in my pumpkin."
